And sometimes
the world opens again
and a warm heart drops in
a tender hand is offered
and eyes kiss
reminding us
what matters most
reminding us
who we are
and how we can be

it’s pain
that opens me
and sometimes
it’s sweetness
that has me buried
in tear soaked sheets
how there is so much water
in me
how I could be so full
of salty somethings
that seem to come
rushing out of me
so unexpectedly

People seem
to think
I am rather prone to crying
because of how I reveal here
but quite the contrary
I find tears
true tears
(sobbing tears)
hard to find

You see
I learned
a long time ago
how to be strong
how to push on
how to persevere
no matter
I might fear
no matter
I might feel

I lean in, hard
I have always been one
to push
my weight
against the wind
and needy
and insecure

I lean in
I fall hard
over and over
again (and again)

Till all that is left
is memories of loving

Till all I can remember
is who I used to be
A girl full of dreams
and extreme
and challenging
full of stories
haunted by memories
feeling everything

Come here
I said
to him
Come near
let me remember
who I am
in how you
meet me here
heart warm
hands tender
eyes twinkling

This is just
how strangers
who know each other
make love

This is just
how we remember
our humanity
under it all
always here
always waiting
for you
and me
