today-my-mom-was-born

Today my mom was born
I don’t know many, if any women
like my mom
Being home-schooled by her
I took a lot of her gifts for granted
I had no reference point to know
how very fortunate I was

It feels like each day I live as an adult
I cultivate more appreciation for her
and how she raised me

My mom is never one to boast
modest to the core
so I love days like today
where I get to unabashedly celebrate her

My mom is a woman who walks her talk
In a world where words have become cheap
she keeps hers always

Truth prevails when she is present
Her commitment to integrity is inspiring
Her work ethic unparalleled
Her generosity endless
Her mind brilliant
Her heart deeply caring
Her spirit mesmerizingly resilient

We all express love differently;
my mom’s life is her expression
Love with her is real, practical
and unwavering

Sometimes the people who do the most
go unnoticed because they are so busy doing
instead of talking about doing

My mom has helped thousands of people
live better lives
feel less alone
and know they matter

There isn’t a day that goes by
that I am not grateful for
her example
her wisdom
her commitment
her love

Because of my mom
I know what family is
I have experienced loyalty
I have known I am not alone

I cannot think of a greater gift
to give a person
than knowing they always
have a home with you

Mom, you have given me that
and so much more

Thank you for loving me
even when I drove you crazy
Thank you for holding me
when I refused to be put down
Thank you for never letting me
pity myself for long
Thank you for raising the bar so high
I know where to climb
Thank you for keeping our family together
even when we are apart

I wish the whole world could know you as I do
But then I would have to share you
and we both know I have never been much a fan
of not having you all to myself

Mom, I love you

More than the sun and the moon and the stars
I will always love you

Happy Birthday Nancy Watson!
