real-and-true-for-you

This is the look I want to give people when they say:
“Lose 10 pounds in 3 days with this revolutionary new drink”
“This will melt away your fat and get rid of your appetite for good”
“Take this pill and it will block all the carbs you eat from being absorbed”
“In just 2.5 hours a week can make a 7 figure income while you sleep”
“8 steps to get the guy of your dreams to do anything you want him too”
Really?
This is where we have come to as a world?
Seems like one cannot turn on the TV or connect to the web without being lied to quite readily
The illusions around every corner
I really do feel the tide changing in many ways of what people will tolerate
I know I have changed
I was the kind of person who believed most everything I read
I valued research over my own experience
I valued experts over my own inner knowing
I valued attention from men over my health
I valued what was sold me as an answer to my prayers over my faith
And I had no idea who I was or what I believed
So I keep reaching outside of me for answers
More workshops
More experts
More advice
It was endless
And the noise began to get so loud I couldn’t step back and see
How everything was so contradictory
Heartbreak woke me up
As it does many of us
It was a pain so intense I couldn’t deny my experience
It pulled me back into sensation
Into my knowing
Into my heart
Into my gut
And I learned to feel without an outside authority telling me what to feel
I learned to listen to my body
So I could say with confidence,
That doesn’t make sense to me
That doesn’t’ feel right to me
You lied
That is not true
Not for me
And I hope that you too, never again let the voices of others get so loud you cannot hear yourself
The whispering
That reminds you
You know
You know what is real and true for you
