and we grow young,
he said
looking longingly
at the horizon line
as the sun
slipped
beneath
the trees
leaving us in darkness
accompanied
by a cool tender
breeze

i looked up
just as the sky
began falling
and clouds crept over
the sparkling sea
of galaxies

sometime
i get to live postcards
and i just wish
i could have
all those i love
with me
always
so they never
have to miss
a thing

it’s such a unique
form of torture
to love so hard
it pains you
to not have
the love
with
you

and yes
it’s in me
but flesh to flesh
we breathe
differently
we see together
and i feel
more at ease

i always used to be
a loner
didn’t much want
anyone around
for too long
but that shifted
in me
as i found
people
i could be
me
with

and that i find
is the most
precious thing
to me…
connection true
and that knowing
that recognition you get
when you meet
family

and the lines i heard
as a little girl
begin to make sense
in reverse
because i am living them

we must be from the same star
i whispered
as he turned to face me

the rain falling harder now
his face barely lit
by the disappearing moon
i felt his heart
extend into me
and i let him pour
into all the jagged
tender parts
till even
the smallest cracks
were filled

and we grow young,
i said
knowing now
what he meant

yes,
he said
his eyes smiling
holding me

that is just
what letting
the love in
does
