i don’t love like you

i am like honey
stolen and sticky
thick and sweet
i can drown the essence
of most anything
in my longing
for belonging

and i know you
you will think you want more
because i carry sunlight

but like anything sugary
too much is exactly that
too much
and you will run

and all the holes i made in me
to make room for you
will bleed
till there is no more honey
left in me

and i remember
how my mother said
trust your instincts

there are boys who will take
the very last drop
and leave

and i remember
how that never much mattered to me
because It was just too painful
to keep so much love
in me
