came looking for me
piercing through the grayness
i felt so consumed with
(i didn’t know it wasn’t me)

but she, happy
she insisted
on peeking through

in a 7 year old girl
with faraway eyes
and the most piercing
warrior princess energy
wrapping herself around me
and melting into me

in a man
who took a moment
to pause and ask
“hey, what just happened for you
i saw that
is there anything i can do”

in a hug that lasted
almost too long
where hearts began
to take breaths together
and warmth came
undeniably through

in puppies
with sharp teeth
and the softest fur
enjoying simple nothings
bringing glee
just by being
as they be

in a sister
who insisted on
stopping me
in my ever present hurry
locking eyes
and making sure
i knew she
loved me for me
(and not for what i do)

in a brother
who keeps extending
and reminding me
in the most straightforward
and sincere way
who i am
(even when nothing seems true)

in firm hands that ground
occasionally offering
a gentle squeeze
(so i know they’re
still here with me)

in real maple syrup
on most everything
in slabs of cold salted butter
and perfectly explosive
lemon ginger
fermented beverages

in excessively long lashes
and pitch black eyeliner

in my head on his chest

in comedy clips
that say what i have been thinking
but not known how to say
that make it easy to laugh
at my own absurdity

in the music
he sometimes
surprises me with
as i greet my day

in my front yard
almost every evening

in knowing
everything is
ever evolving

even me
